Membership

Lifetime membership in the Foundation is available to officers (or comparable grade) or warrant officers (and surviving un-remarried spouses) eligible to receive retired pay from any component (Regular, Reserve or National Guard) of the US Armed Forces, and members of the Foreign Service, CIA, FBI, NOAA, and USPHS.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors may also approve lifetime membership on a case-by-case basis, as an exception, to those eligibility criteria for persons who have had "a significant special relationship with the community of officers."  Any person, either qualified to be a life member or not, may become an annual member of the Foundation by paying a $25 annual fee.

Members

It's easy to join.  You simply complete the application for the Foundation and attach a copy of your DD214 (Record of Service), or equivalent.  The Lifetime Membership fee is $1,000 for a single person and $1,500 for a couple.  Your membership application will be processed for approval and you will be sent a letter notifying you of your membership and your lifetime membership number.  The day your application is approved is the day your priority status becomes official.

Another important benefit:  The entire fee is credited to your entry fee payment upon moving into The Fairfax.  Or, should you wish to cancel your membership for any reason, the non-interest bearing membership fee is fully refundable.

Another way to join is to make a tax-deductible donation to the Foundation of $1,000 for a single person and $1,500 for a couple.  This donation is not refundable.

When a move to The Fairfax seems likely, it's time to join The Fairfax's Active Wait List.  This means you will receive a personal call each time the residence of your choice is available.  You can always decline, but this time-tested process eliminates worry about missing out on your favorite apartment or cottage.

It's an easy process with no risk.  Simply complete The Fairfax Application for Residency form and remit a $300 non-refundable application fee payable to Sunrise.  Then complete The Fairfax Active Waiting List request form and pay a deposit to Sunrise of $3,500 to $6,500, depending upon the size of your desired residence.  The deposit is placed in a money market account and is fully refundable with accumulated interest should you choose not to move to The Fairfax.  Otherwise, upon settlement of the move-in entry fee, the Active Wait List deposit plus accumulated interest will be credited toward the payment of your entry fee.

Again, it is never too soon to start thinking and preparing for retirement life.  The sooner you join the Foundation, the better your lifetime sequential priority number will be.  Your membership priority number will influence your position on the Active Wait List when you apply to enter The Fairfax.

The Fairfax offers four alternative entry fee plans:

      •     Plan #1: 90% Refundable Plan.  This plan provides for 90% repayment of the resident's entry fee if a resident leaves the community or dies.  Upon resale of the residence, repayment is made to the resident or to the resident's estate in the event of his or her death.

      •     Plan #2: Moderate 90% Refundable Plan.  This plan is similar to Plan #1, 90% Refundable Plan, but with a lower entry fee and a higher monthly maintenance fee.  This plan also provides for 90% repayment of the resident's entry fee if a resident leaves the community or dies.  Upon resale of the residence, repayment is made to the resident or to the resident's estate in the event of his or her death.

        •      Plan #3: 50% Refundable Plan.  This plan provides for 50% repayment of the resident's entry fee if a resident leaves the community or dies.  Upon resale of the residence, repayment is made to the resident or to the resident's estate in the event of his or her death.

      •     Plan #4: Non-Refundable Plan. This plan provides for no repayment of the resident's entry fee if a resident leaves the community or dies.

Except for Plan #2, Moderate 90% Refundable Plan, the other three plans (Plans #1, #3, and #4) carry the same monthly maintenance fee depending on the size of the residence and the number of occupants.

It should be noted that for Plans #1, #3, and #4 the higher the repayment that is provided, the higher the entry fee.

Current fees can be obtained from The Fairfax Sales and Marketing Department at (703) 781-2405.  The Sales Department is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on weekends by appointment.
